Clarks Desert Boots

Bought my Clarks DB back in Dec 2010. There was this Amazon Black Friday Sale and luckily, I managed to get my pair of Clarks DB at less than SGD$100 after shipping! The retail price was S$165 iirc. (ok, they got to pay rent, staff, overheads etc)

The DB is great. Comfortable right out of the box, no break-in needed.

After a month or so of wearing:

During which, I had several near-slip incidents due to the Crepe Sole. It was comfortable, no doubt about it. But there was little traction and I almost slipped and fell several times during/after rain when walking on cement floors.

So I decided the crepe must go. The DB is too good to be worn only on a good weather. And in Singapore, you can have Mr Sunshine smiling at you one minute, and the next, Miss Rainy comes to say Hi!

And so, I went to Masterfix Services to replace the crepe soles with Vibram Gumlite. Pricey, as compared to the cost of the shoe, but it was well worth it.

The cobblers surprised me with a new buffed and polished look when I went to collect them. Love it!

I know the shine won't stay. It's already slowly falling back to its rugged look now (less than a month since they were polished)

They are now my daily work shoes and sometimes when I'm bored, I will just admire the leather...

  1. Hey, your DBs' look awesome! Btw, how much the the sole replacement cost you? Did you order the soles yourself or are they available over at Masterfix Services? I'm interested in the Christy sole.

  4. Frankly speaking, it was quite expensive. SGD$80. I got my DBs for less than SGD$100 during the amazon sale. You can say I'm crazy but I just can't risk wearing the crepe soles out in Singapore's weather. A sudden downpour and I will be like walking on ice. Do check them out. :D
