Applying Leather Oil to my Combat Boots!?

"Are you crazy??"

"You siao-on ah?" (Outrageously on-the-ball)

These will be the comments I will be hearing if I tell people I had applied Obenauf's Leather Oil to my 10-years old combat boots. This pair of boots had been serving me well for the past decade. The first few months of wearing it was terrible. Taking in and out was as shaving a piece of my flesh off. Blisters, bruises, cuts. You name it. It took a long time to break in. But now, it feels like a pair of sneakers and the newer version of the issued combat boots, although they are comfortable out-of-the-box, doesn't feel as sturdy as this older version.

Well I was feeling bored and decided to put some TLC to this pair of boots that had serve me well. I still need them for at least 6-7 years so I figure the extra effort will be better.

Here are some pictures of how it looks like before and after Oiling.

Top: Before
Bottom: After

you know the drill

Overall feel, the oil gets absorbed like a camel being fed with water after months of desert walk. Initially the boots felt like they are gonna break like a dried piece of biscuit the next time an impact hits it. Now its soft yet retains its strength like never before. All in all, good food for the boots!

Applying Obenauf's LP to my Clarks Desert Boots

Here it is, after months of wearing, I finally applied the LP to my boots.

Why?

Because I find the leather looks dull and monotonous after some time, hoping the LP will rejuvenate it.

How (it goes)?

Here it is:

Top: Before
Bottom: After

My opinions after applying Obenauf's LP:

  • It didn't darken the leather at all. The finished result developed an even tone across and color is richer.
  • It leaves no sticky residue (mink oil does)
  • It gets absorbed fast.

Obenauf Products here in Singapore!!!!

Finally, the Obenauf's has come to Singapore!!!

*REJOICE*

for those of you still haven't heard of this brand, it's one of (or rather, the only) the most reputable leather care products you can find.

I had been using the Leather Preservative (LP for short) for my leather boots and leather goods for quite some time. And wow, they are really gooood!!! They gives your leather the protection needed and waterproofs it without blocking the pores with harmful chemicals.

I used the Watershield for my Manhattan Portage Bag also and it repels water pretty good.

And since I am in Singapore, I sure am glad that the next time I need to buy Obenauf's Products, I can just get them straight without going through the agonizing waiting period!

DIY Coin Pouch from OGL

The Obbi Good Label (OGL) finally open their store here in Arab Street, Singapore.

I am very interested in their leathercraft lesson and so, they arranged a time and invited us or simply anyone who just want to say "hi" to drop by their shop on the opening day.

I managed to rush there after work and see how they do the stitching and burnishing on the spot. It was very interesting and informative (my girlfriend may think otherwise).

After the short demonstration of the leathercrafting, we were allowed to do a simple coin pouch that they prepared for us beforehand.

I'm not good with my hands but this simple coin pouch was quite easy to start with. Although still need their guidance along the way, most of it is pretty much done by yours truly.

Here's how it looks like:

Upon reaching home, I used the Obenauf's LP for it and also the leather oil in attempt to darken it.

This is before the application:

After:

It may look like its dirty. This pic was taken minutes after the application. The first few seconds gives an even darker tone. The tone then slowly even out over the next few minutes.

Will be updating on its evolution in time to come!

Blood Donation

It's my 19th time to donate blood and I am proud to be a regular blood donor.

Was at the bloodbank that day and as usual, the nurses preparing for the process, I was sitting (or lying) there and looking at my gorgeous Clarks Desert Boots.

Lovely huh...
